Nahar Lining
Project Overview
This project covered the cement-concrete lining of a 3.2 km nahar network serving agricultural land in Banda district under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) scheme. The existing earthen field channels were losing approximately 45% of water to seepage before reaching the fields. Wave Earth Infratech executed the complete lining works including bed and side wall concreting, inlet-outlet structures, and field drain connections - substantially improving irrigation efficiency and reducing water waste across the command area.
Scope of Work
- Desilting and earthwork shaping of existing nahar: 9,800 cum
- Cement concrete lining M-15 grade - bed and both side walls
- Construction of 14 inlet and outlet structures
- Connecting field drain outlets at farmer field entries
- Construction of turnout and regulator structures: 4 nos
- Finishing, curing, and quality testing of lining works
- Final measurement and handover documentation
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge
Harvest season restrictions meant work had to stop at certain locations during November
Solution
Work schedule adjusted to progress from two ends simultaneously, completing sections away from standing crops first
Challenge
High water table in low-lying sections caused formwork instability
Solution
Dewatering pumps deployed and formwork base deepened with additional shuttering support
Challenge
Existing nahar alignment had sharp curves requiring special formwork
Solution
Flexible panel formwork fabricated on-site to match curved sections accurately
