Project Overview
This project involved the design and construction of a new irrigation distribution network in Rewa district under the MP Water Resources Department. The project covered construction of a primary distribution canal, secondary field channels, check dams, and farm-level water control structures to bring 680 hectares under assured irrigation for the first time. Wave Earth Infratech managed the complete civil execution - from excavation and earthwork to RCC structures and commissioning - across a challenging terrain with mixed soil conditions and seasonal flooding risk.
Scope of Work
- Primary distribution canal excavation and lining: 5.6 km
- Secondary field channel network: 8.4 km earthen and lined
- RCC check structures (falls) construction: 12 nos
- Farm water control outlets: 340 nos
- Head regulator and sluice gate structures: 3 nos
- Earthwork excavation and embankment: 42,000 cum
- Access tracks and maintenance roads: 3.8 km
- Final commissioning, flow calibration and handover
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge
Mixed soil profile including expansive black cotton soil in eastern sections
Solution
Soil stabilisation with lime treatment before compaction in black cotton sections; additional lining thickness specified
Challenge
Seasonal flooding risk in low-lying areas during kharif season
Solution
Work sequenced to complete flood-prone sections before monsoon onset; temporary flood protection bunds erected
Challenge
Coordination of 340 farm connection points with individual farmers
Solution
Dedicated community liaison team worked with village panchayats to schedule and confirm each farm outlet location
Challenge
RCC check structure foundations encountered hard rock at 1.2m depth
Solution
Rock breaking equipment deployed; foundation design adjusted with department approval
